Phosphorescence

Physicists define phosphorescence as “the radiative transition between states of different electronic spin multiplicities.” I say it is the light within, a persistent glow. Phosphorescence is energy that remains long after the material subject of the photograph has vanished.

Capturing phosphorescence is not my ultimate goal; it is a step on the way to conveying meaning. When my photographs transcend their inanimate medium, they remind us that we, too, will transcend. We are an integral part of the universe, eternal. Those we have loved live on — and we will too.
